I don't knit very well, or knit anything very exciting, but I do knit. Behold pieces of the "Suggestive Shrug," from Yarn Girls' Guide to Knits for All Seasons. I love Euroflax Linen. I also love Brussels sprouts. Coincidence? I do understand that linen is a different experience from, say, cashmere, but I actually enjoy knitting with it, and the finished objects are far better suited to Where I Am Now.
I'd also love to know how much time other knitters spend arranging their stuff for photos. Some blogs manage these artsy, perfectly lit displays. I threw the damp pieces on a towel in the "guest room," flattened them out a bit (my idea of blocking), and pointed the camera at them. Thus, they look a bit like carwash rags.
Specs: Euroflax Linen in Sea Hawk, a really nice marled black and tan, very office-ish. Size 9 needles, the pattern called for 10s so I hit gauge on 9s, because I am a loose woman, knitterly speaking. I made a size L, because the Yarn Girls apparently do not have boobs and their patterns only go up to around a 40 inch bust (actual finished dimensions, ease not included) and I didn't want that "stretched tight around the girls" look for the office.
In other news, my long stretch of quasi-employment may be ending this week. Wednesday, maybe. Or Thursday. Soon. I have a permanent job on the horizon, and I am so glad. These random checks with "expert fees" on the stub are not as exciting as I'd always thought they'd be, and definitely aren't enough to keep the dawgs in treats and the cats in clean litter. If the permanent job arrives, I will be able to evaluate the odds of MDS&W.
In other news, Boy's company is relocating him to Charleston. He has mixed emotions - happy about the job opportunity, sad to be leaving Asheville. But there just ain't no decent jobs there, so Charleston it shall be. If I do get to go to MD, he will be unpacking in the new place while I'm making the return trip, and I invited myself to visit, do dinner, etc., on the return trip. If I make the initial trip, which is still up in the air.
I am off to obtain all of my neglected continuing education for my paralegal certification in one butt-numbing 2.5 day session. I'm bringing the Macbook but I don't know how much time I will have to play on free wifi. Otherwise, I'll be back on Saturday. As this is a paralegal wingding and I don't usually play well with others at these things, there may even be another finished linen object by then.
I hope you can make it to MD S&W, but overall, I think employed is better than unemployed right now. And the 4-legged critters appreciate the comfy sofas and air-conditioning, not to mention the treats and cat litter.

Hey, I moved from Charleston two years ago this May. I loved it. Housing can be expensive but between the great restaurants, historic neighborhoods and beaches; well, it's awesome. If he has any questions on where to live, I'd be glad to answer them or forward them to my friends still there.
ReplyDeleteAfter the butt-numbing, you might need one of these to celebrate the gainful employment!

Do hope to see you soon!
Dog treats and cat litter in one sentence reminds me of that particular horror known by those who own both dogs and cats. So there's one solution.
ReplyDeleteI think it's probably better if you get the job. Here's positive thinking!
