Dudley Went Home

Girlchild took her dog home today, and we agreed that he will not be spending as much time here going forward. Tomorrow I will fill in the holes he dug in my yard, again.

And my daughter dropped off my gift from New Orleans:

I will not read the housing market news while drinking it, I promise.

And just for Amie:

That's the print over the bed. Apologies for the mediocre quality of the shot. It's a Maxfield Parrish painting, and I think (but can't swear to it because I've had it for years) that I got it from Art.com

The lamp:

is from Home Decorators Collection I searched every local source and finally surrendered and ordered them from a catalog. They have just a hint of my favorite blue, and a hint of the green, and they actually put out enough light to read by, which is shockingly hard to find in a bedside lamp.

  1. Lovely, both - the art is perfect for the bedroom, peaceful and serene without being boring and sappy. And I love Tiffany-style lamps, but so many of them are either staggeringly expensive or garishly elaborate. Yours are simple and elegant without becoming too busy or frilly.

  2. These weren't cheap, I can't remember exactly what I paid but I know it was over a hundred bucks each, and I would have preferred a $40 lamp from Tar-jay if I could have found one that took more than a 60 watt bulb and was reasonably attractive. I love Maxfield Parrish, some of his stuff is a little too fantasy for me, but this one is just serene and not cliched. I bought it long before I picked the blue for the walls - years before, in fact - and I did not pick the paint color to match the art, but I get a kick out of how they look together. I love it when a plan comes together without planning. ;-)

I was just in NO for the first time a few weeks ago. It was a whirlwind evening as I was actually in Baton Rouge for a meeting but just had to drive down to NO for dinner. Cafe Du Monde was the last stop before heading back up to LSU.

I love that blue - would like to do something like that in our bathroom. Of course there are several other rooms that need attention first in our new house. Like the living room which was stripped of wall paper before we moved in and still is bare. Sigh.

(I now have a blog! Check it out)
