Actual Craftsual Content!

I hope you all are sitting down. I know that actual craft content Chez Bossydog must come as a huge shock.

First, the second of two afghans in progress. This one I think will be for me. It is going to be a whole lotta blues with a few shots of grape (shown below), lime and fuschia. It is very, very loosely inspired by the Babette Blanket, except in my own color scheme and concept. I saw this one and thought "Hmmm, I don't particularly care for it, but there's something about it...." and next thing I knew, I was up to my butt in cotton yarns and the thing has started designing itself. I'm thinking solid squares, some in two colors, some in three, maybe some will be bigger or smaller, we shall see where it goes. The colors are almost true, but the turquoise is much prettier in person, it's actually a vibrant shade of Cottontale 8 called Tropic. Not shown in this picture is the third color (so far) a really lime-y lime green.

Next we have the hexagonal beachy-themed afghan that started this crochet binge. I started with a cocoa brown that has since been benched for use in a later project. In its place we have two shades of aqua, plus vanilla and cream. I'm thinking of the ocean waves, white foam, and of course, sand. They are artfully posing with the two Yankee Candle scents that caused me to eat my words about YC. The two scents are Beachwalk and Sun & Sand. I swear they really do smell like the beach, very light and fresh, and they coordinate nicely together. Sun & Sand sits in the living room, while Beachwalk occupies my dresser, and when they are both burning the house has a light, faint aroma of salt air and a hint of flowers, and without the sinus-burning properties of a lot of YC scents.

These hexagons will not be edged - too retro-granny - but will be crocheted together from the back with the sand colored yarn.

And yay for Bright, Sunshiny Days when Mommy can take pictures without the flash that hurts Murphy's eyes. It took several shots to convince him that yes, he really could look right at the camera and it would not hurt, but this one was worth it:

  1. Murphy's so adorable. I'm looking at his little brown eyes as I type. He doesn't really look bossy but they can fool you with that sweet look. :)

The candles sound so delicious that you are tempting us to go check out YC. There's one in the mall, or at least there was. The afghans are both great colors but of course the beach colors.... well, they are favorites here. Take Care Catherine. See you around.

oh, the cuteness that is Murphy!
I really like the hexagons...they look like sand dollars to me...maybe good luck for your house sale!

  3. Oh, I like the sand dollar idea - but aren't they five sided? But it's close enough and it does work with the beachy concept. The other afghan squares are not as garish in person as in that picture, those colors defy my camera, they are richer and softer in person, but that will be the challenging one as it comes along- those colors will not dominate the final plan. I know this because the plan is coming together. :-)

  4. And I've been telling Murphy all afternoon that he's a lot cuter in pictures than Live and Bitching. ;-)

The Bossy One is so dear---he reminds me allot of my old Yorkie, Teddie. (She was a girl.) Your afghan is so appropriate for Florida and the beach. I've been working on one in Bartlett wool for next winter here in Iowa. I'm using the pattern for the squares that was on the Mason-Dixon site about a week ago. Good luck on your job search and consulting work---we had a benefits counselor give us a pitch today. We're guaranteed jobs until June 30, but that time is racing by. Yikes! It's starting to seem very real.

  6. i love both afghans.

however, i can't walk into YC. the cacophony of smells immediately sets me off, and i start sneezing, and get a headache. i have to have a serious headcold to even contemplate it any more. maybe i'll send the boys in, lol.

and i LOVED murphy's picture. he's so cute!

  8. Aw, Murph. Ya don't look a day over two. Great picture!

I read both the subject line and first paragraph as "Annual" not "actual"... hmmmm.... :P

  9. Semi-annual? Quarterly? I'd say quarterly is pretty accurate. I will try to aim for monthly.
