It's alive!

Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit! A twitch of life in the local job market - first there was an email I didn't answer right away, and then a follow-up call asking why, from a potential corporate employer. I won't be more specific than that, but it was the first call of interest in six weeks, for a real job with a real company, with a real paycheck. (I skipped the niceties and asked the salary range right off the bat, because I wasn't going to waste my time or theirs, and though I may have startled the guy a bit he did respond. It does sound at least in the ballpark.) I will not stay here for anything less than a national or international employer and making no less than I did at my last job. I have little faith in the strength of the local job market right now but I'd stay if I stayed with a big outfit, and yes, I'll be happy to talk to these people and see if we like each other.

I'm in a good position here, I am not desperate to stay in FL, but I can be talked into it. The prospective employer gets to do the talking these days, because though I would be glad to stay for the right job I don't HAVE to stay. My kids are grown and I'm single and I can go anywhere, so it's up to them to make me want to stay.

Boy and Girl are also hanging on the brink of job moves within their current employment. I was talking to Girl today and said that maybe one of us will get a break and it will create a chain of positive events for all of us. Something has to give here.

Right now I think I'll swatch some leftover Euroflax to test the gauge for another feather and fan wrap, bigger and badder than before. Dudley is at his house, the cats are snuggled on the couch (near freezing temps tonight). I called Boy earlier, he wasn't impressed by our cold, it was 34 and windy and snowing. Showoff.

real job, real paycheck, real benefits - real good reason to talk to the guy.

You know I'd rather have you up closer, but what I really want is for you to be able to retire one of these days ... so we can take that scandinavian knitting cruise up into the fjords of norway. :D

    chanting good juju for youyou

  2. Ditto everything Bess said, but I'd prefer a trip to the Fair Isles...

Sending positive thoughts your way. If it's a national company, could the job be in another area of the country, just being hired in Florida?

  5. I don't know whether they will even call me for an interview at this point - it's just the first call I've received about anything. I don't know whether it'll go anywhere, it was just the first sign of life in this very dead market.
