A rare rainy day.

We shouldn't have days like this during the dry season. Today was a bona fide gray, rainy day - the rain started last night and continued through the morning, when it shifted to gloom and dripping a few random drops.

I didn't sleep well last night, my allergies woke me around 3 and I've pretty much been awake ever since. I have deduced the cause of my discomfort, using my outstanding investigative skills:

I know Higgins is happy that Dudley moved out so he could reclaim my bed. I never did get around to restocking the allergy meds; it's no longer optional. And I will be changing the sheets.

Otherwise, I did not accomplish jack shit today. And it felt good. Higgins set the mood for the day, we pretty much laid around and did nothing. I will have to make up for this tomorrow, of course, but today felt good. I also Cast On Something Fun and Mindless. I had a cone of Euroflax Barcelona (apparently, and sadly, discontinued) and had intended to make a top, but impulsively cast on yet another rectangular shawl. I've decided that I prefer the rectangle, it's more wearable, and that eggplant colored linen shawl I made a few years ago still makes me happy, though if I could do it over again, I'd go up a couple of needle sizes. So that's what I'm doing with this one - size 6 needles, feather and fan, a cone of Euroflax Barcelona in Blue Jay, and fingers crossed that the 1300 yards will be enough for a nice long rectangular wrap. It should be, but I'm awful at guesstimating and will worry until I'm on the home stretch, or perhaps start cursing around halfway through if it's not going to be long enough.

Boy reported in, they had an Adventure getting home to Asheville as they drove into a blowing snowstorm once they got to the mountains (and remember these are Florida boys we're talking about here). They navigated the Green River Gorge on 26 by following in the wake of an 18-wheeler that gamely pushed along in front of them. Then Boy's street is STEEP and WINDING, and they couldn't make it up the narrow dark road, they started slip-sliding all over on the snowy, icy twists and turns, so they had to park on a flat cross street and hoof it, but they arrived safely. I know the people who live with real winter can't understand this, but I do enjoy the snowy weather that occasionally hits the mid-Atlantic, it's not severe or long-lasting enough to really be obnoxious, it's just fun. So I'm wishing I could be there.

Tomorrow I have a ton of things to do, including dognapping that adorable little granddog in the post below. I'll pay for goofing off today, but it felt so good to do nothing.

  1. Loved that snow. Just wish it had lasted. Sigh. Don't move to Richmond - it's 50 miles below the snow line.

  2. Richmond was not seriously on the radar, I am a Mid-Atlantic State Girl and I know Richmond - nice town, but too far South for decent paychecks for a widder lady. The NC mountains would be lovely but for that whole having to work for a living thing, there are no decent jobs. If I leave FL, pain in the ass that it would be, I will be somewhere in the DC/MD/VA corridor, from whence I came.
