Things I just had to do.

I had to make This. It is really, really good. I stopped in Publix while the nice Sample Lady was cooking it, and it smelled so good I had to try it, and then had to pick up the ingredients and make it. Mmmmm. I didn't cook the chicken on the grill outside because it was raining, I used a grill pan on the stove. It did not detract from the fabulousness. Try it, you'll love it. Even the funky sauce with the molasses - it sounds weird but trust me. I put the sauce in a big shallow pasta bowl and tossed the cooked chicken thighs in it. There are leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

I LOVE my glass cooktop stove. Because when I walked away to let the dogs out for the umpteenth time and the coconut milk and chicken broth (no rice yet) boiled over in a big, ugly way, and I had to clean up a big ugly mess, cleanup was so much less painful than back in the day of taking the stove apart.

I had to get my hair cut. I am growing out the super-short cut, because dammit, I missed having hair. I am going to grow it in to a short layered bob and then play with color. As long as I have a Hair God, I am thinking some nice caramel foil stuff, but not on hair this short. The Hair God did a great in-between cut and masterfully addressed the very awkward, ugly time of Growing In the Parts That Cover the Ears (and if you've had really short hair you know what I mean) but then dried it in a way that totally didn't suit me. I restyled it when I got home and I am very happy with the cut. I knew the cut would be good because he is Extremely Good, it's a growing out cut and not a style I'd actually do as a first choice, but it Actually Does Not Suck, and I am glad I let him do it his way. I see what he was doing now. The true Hair Gods must be trusted.

And here is the funny and why I should know at my advanced age to never say never:

I have to buy yarn. Because I went though my sock yarn collection (which is embarrassingly small compared to some of you world class sock yarn stashers) and I had nothing appropriate for a guy. My son wants socks. I tempted the universe, I said I wouldn't buy yarn this month. But how can I refuse my son's wish for socks? He never asks for anything. I think I have to buy sock yarn. It's my duty as a mother.

Looks yummy. so where did you find cilantro herb paste? And what is in 'complete seasoning'? I have a cupboard full of herbs and would really rather make it than buy it. I think I have everything else in the pantry...

Or you could enter my birthday contest and WIN some manly apporved yarn :)

Publix has the cilantro herb paste in the fresh produce section. Complete Seasoning is in the Latin food aisle, there are lots of brands but it's mostly onion and garlic, I think it's a generic name for the Goya Adobo seasoning.

and what's a hair cut? i'll have to get the beautician to take a pic of my hair. i haven't had a real cut since 97. i can sit on it. ought to be fun for the wedding, eh?

Do you have puppy pictures of Murphy? When you start knitting the projects, the Mason-Dixon book is fun: everything is easy, since you're not going to wear them there are no fitting issues, and the yarns they recommend all come in lots of bright colors. And buying *sock* yarn doesn't really count.

No No No! Sock yarn does NOT EVER count, so don't count it! And you have NO choice but to be a good mother...especially to a child who never asks for anything...(is there really such a thing?)
lolol!
Buy that yarn.
(((hugs)))

I didn't have a digital camera when Murphy was a puppy, and we really didn't take that many pictures of him for some reason - oh, that's right, because he HATED the flash. I have a couple, I'll have to scan them. He was tiny and much more silver than he is now.
