in this climate is that when you are sweating and the sweat is dripping out of your hair and running down your face, as mine is right now, it smells pleasantly coconutty. It smells so wonderful I'm craving a pina colada. What did I do to sweat this profusely? I took out the trash, including the trash that has been sitting behind the fence in the backyard for three weeks because it was gross and I didn't want to move it. I watered the tomatoes and herbs (which are recovering since I moved them to the relative shelter of late afternoon shade) and cleaned the pond filter. I am sweating like I just ran a marathon. We were teased with the thought of rain today, but, no.
Meanwhile, I received the last part of my order from Cotton Clouds today - a cone of Cotton Tail 8 in milk chocolate. I like very much. I think this will be the fabric of my Crocheted Bed Throw Project, which, if I work at my usual speed, I expect to have completed in time to use the throw in the nursing home. I'm thinking I'll do the "Wheat Ears" square from Donna Kooler's fab crochet book. If you are contemplating crochet, get this book. It is great. However, I don't see "wheat ears" in this design at all - when I hear "wheat ears" I picture something funky and rustic, and this is not.
I want something sophisticated looking and yet square with straight edges so I can join it easily. I considered a pretty motif like Fluffy Knitter Deb's (see April 8) but I faced facts, yes, I really am so lazy that I would rather assemble squares because they are easier. Yes, I'm lazy, but at least I am self-aware. So, Wheat Ears in Cotton Tail 8 it is - I'm not sure one cone will do it, so I may have to select a contrasting color or two to be named later.
Otherwise, I'm diligently plugging along on the Seychelles Shawl, which I do love, but the rows are getting long so the progress isn't as impressive as it was. I'm about 1/3 of the way through skein 3 of 4 - just far enough in to make it slow going, but too far to see the finish line. I will at least get it done by Girlchild's graduation in August. Honest.
You'll enjoy this. My husband has been faithfully reading your blog waiting to hear the news about your new spinning wheel.
ReplyDeleteWhat new spinning wheel?
Well, it seems he thinks of Bess as a dog person (rightfully) and saw "dog" in the title of the blog and assumed this was her. He thought you were being extremely restrained in not mentioning your new Golding.
Kinda makes that story about the issues with his backwards underwear last year make a little more sense, doesn't it?
Hey, he's easy on the eyes....
If you really like the pattern, they are hexagons so it's almost as easy a sewing squares! I LOVE the pattern (thanks for the link!)
ReplyDeleteKen has such a pretty face. Let's give him a primer: Bess: Big Dogs, Country, Virginia, Spinning Wheel, Librarian. Catherine: Small dogs, City, Florida, No Spinning Wheel, construction/development. Swears MUCH more than Bess. Look for the F Word - you will never see it on Bess's blog.
ReplyDeleteI have curly hair and live in Central America.....I 110% understand the value of a good hair product.
