M Kane Jeeves. "Bush is to health care what blunt blow trauma is to the cognitive processes." Preach it, brother. I really am scared for the future of this country. It's going to take decades to dig out of the hole, if we ever can.
I'll tell you, I'm losing the strength to respond to the shit I see and hear. I cannot imagine how one can be so abysmally disconnected that one doesn't see that we are headed in the wrong direction at a very high and ever increasing rate of speed, that stuff is happening that we should care very much about, and the response is, "Oh, it's always like this." No, it's not fucking always like this. This is starting to make Nixon look good. I am old enough to remember Nixon. This is more brazen and more directed at The Rest of Us and our lives and futures than Tricky Dick ever dared.
Of course, the hilarity of the day, for me, was the story that George Clooney is in trouble for his joke at the Golden Globes the other night (was it the Golden Globes? I don't watch the shows and I can't keep track.) Apparently Abramhoff's father said it made his granddaughter cry. I'm like, "Honey, your father is a confessed felon with a scorecard that would make a Soprano salute and call him paisan, and George Clooney's dopey little joke IS WHAT MADE YOU CRY?" Poor kid, they should let her read the news, she shouldn't hear this on the street.
Ditto Mrs. Alito's tears at the hearings. Excuse me, but isn't this guy a judge? Give me a goddamn break, she's heard worse personal attacks at cocktail parties and laughed them off. It comes with the robes. Those tears struck me as so far over the top, unless they were tears of exhaustion and frustration that she had to sit there for so many hours in an ugly suit and pretend to be listening. That would wear a person down. But boy, those Republican women sure are portrayed in the media as a weepy bunch lately. I smell a Victimhood Plan....
I need to crank out six inches of the second Red Scarf Project scarf tonight. It's not red, it's a rich, gender-neutral teal. Off to work....
ok, what exactly WAS the joke ol' george told? i'm sorry, i don't watch them either, and as far as i'm concerned, if abramoff was that concerned about how this is affecting his family, he shouldn't have done it in the first place. cops don't look at you because you're innocent.
ReplyDeleteYou hardly ever plead guilty to fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy when "innocent," either. I do feel sorry for his kid(s) (I don't know how many he has) it must be very hard to find out that their father is a sleazebag, but obviously he didn't take their feelings into consideration when he chose this "career path."
ReplyDeleteThat blunt blow tauma quote was my favorite too. Ed is the bestest.
ReplyDeleteGreed is an interesting motivator n'est pas? Abramoff sure has that sheepish look down pat.
