Sudden, Sad News

can just knock the wind out of you. A regular Knitter's Review poster, Cameellie, lost her battle with an array of health problems yesterday. The freaky part is that yesterday I was scanning the posts from KR people (I don't keep up well) and realized her name was missing, and I felt guilty that I didn't notice until yesterday and had a strong feeling something was wrong, but I shook it off. I feel much guiltier that I didn't notice that I hadn't had any funnies from her in a while, either. We weren't super-close, but we swapped jokes and such.

Today I found out she passed away yesterday.

We'd swapped a few private messages and emails, and a smarter, sassier, braver woman I've never known. I thought I'd share with you the last joke she sent me, almost a month ago. It's too raunchy for KR without editing that would kill the effect, but I want to share it because I laughed out loud, and shook my head with amazement that this was sent to me by a critically ill woman from her hospital bed. This says more about what kind of woman she was than a thousand flowery tributes:

Medical Lecture...

A professor was giving a lecture on "Involuntary Muscular
Contractions" to first year medical students. Realizing that this was not the most riveting subject the professor decided to lighten the mood slightly.

He pointed to a young woman in the front row and said "Do you know
what your asshole is doing while you are having an orgasm?"

She replied "He's probably down at the bar with his friends."

Raise a cup or glass of whatever you're drinking and wish a tough and amazing and raunchily hilarious woman all the best in her next life. I'm sure she's in heaven, because the devil would be scared shitless of a broad like her. And in heaven the yarn shops are stuffed with free cashmere in every color. Yes, I believe it.

What a great thing to share... I noticed about a week ago that I hadn't seen her name, and figured sometime soon I'd do a sarch and actually try to get in touch with her. Just goes to show how time gets away from us.

Somewhere she's sharing a laugh with us all!

I remember seeing her "around" on KR. But low and behold, I found out the other day from Teri that Camille lived right here in Kansas City - right under my nose, but I never had the good fortune to meet her. Darn, I wish I had.
