Late this afternoon I decided to hit Stein Mart. I almost never find anything wearable there, and 90% of their choices were just Godawful - spangled and boho-ho and Dear God, as if the poncho fad wasn't enough, WHY GAUCHOS???? They were ugly in the 70s! They were everywhere, in every color and fabric. You haven't seen ugly until you see a tiered peasant skirt in shiny brown satin next to shiny brown gauchos next to a boho top with enough sequins to blind Siegfried and Roy. God help us.
But buried in the dreck was a treasure - a nice chiffon dressy top with a deep v-neck, long sheer sleeves and a sparkly band of rhinestones at the waist. I'm not normally a rhinestone type but I really liked this, it's understated sparkly. Then came a nice comfy pair of dress slacks, soft black knit, to go with it. And I already have cute little sandals, all I have to do is pedicure my gnarly feet (didn't get to them yesterday, and it's just as well) and I'm good to go on Thursday for less than sixty bucks, and I'll actually be comfortable! What a load off my mind. I've clarified that dressy festive pants outfits are not out of place at this shindig, so that's the way to go, for sure.
I've figured out that the treadmill at the gym is the perfect place to read real estate licensing law on a Sunday afternoon.
Do I still knit? Yes! I've made great progress on the linen shawl, I'm almost through ball three (of 4). I'm about 7 inches into the pink baby blankie for the grandchild-to-be-conceived-much-later. And I have a yen to start something else, but I'm fighting it.
I need to revisit the dogs sweaters, but it's in the 70s here so it's hard to work up any enthusiasm. I gave up on the pattern I had (the one I'd used for Murphy) because it wouldn't work with Dudley's long torso and slippery short coat. Without getting too graphic about it, a coat shaped like that would need a belly band to hold it on a dog with his coat. A belly band, a male dog, uh, do the math. I'm not handwashing pee out of Lamb's Pride. So I need to look at other sweater styles, find something that comes down more over the chest but won't flap up around his ass in the wind, because it's the wind that really makes a coat necessary. But as I said, it's 72 degrees today, it's hard to worry about their wardrobe needs right now, especially since Dudley dawdles in the yard as it is - if he's chilly he may take care of business faster and come back inside.
Four days off - they went by so quickly! Sniff....
Horse blankets (because Murphy is big and strong like bull) sometimes have a strap across the rump, under the tail, as well as across the chest and girth... I don't know if that could be modified at all....
ReplyDeleteAmie, anything under the tail of a dog sounds like a bad idea - besides, the boy is still a boy, so I think it would be uncomfortable as well as unsanitary! I'm thinking he needs a short, chest-covering sweater that fits closely enough that he won't pee on it. His butt will just have to catch the breeze.
