Random Monday.

Good Day at Work. I feel appreciated and I'm using my brain. I'd so much rather be slightly fried at the end of the day than the alternative(s).

Why, Oh Why, do offices decide to do "Thanksgiving Feast" the day before Thanksgiving? This is, excuse me for saying so, blindingly stupid. Nobody needs to eat that meal two days in a row. Those of us who are cooking on Thursday really don't appreciate a sign-up sheet to bring shit on Wednesday. I'm thinking rolls from the Publix bakery.

Why, Oh Why, do I have to go to a fancy dress-up Christmas Party in (counting rapidly on fingers) like, 10 days? Do you know how many years it has been since I have been to a dress-up party? I don't even know what people wear to them. But I will dress up and attend, because it's work-related (it's good to be the client) and it'll probably be really fun, too. But I still don't know what to wear, and I will probably spend this weekend in shopping hell, trying to come up with something appropriate.

If I wake up early enough, I may do a freshly perked rant on "Working Outside the Home." It's a phrase that sets my teeth on edge - it did it when I was a working mom, it did it when I encountered it again when I was a conscripted Cancer Caregiver, because I was goddamn sure that men my age with dying wives weren't asked that question. Whoops, I feel the rant coming on - but I'll save it for tomorrow.

Knitting. I pulled that Softball Cotton out of the stash from hell, and thought it wanted to be a double-broken-rib, kinda thermal-looking blankie. And it said NO. It had to be feather and fan. But I think there is enough for two girlie blankies, and the second one will be that nice thermal ribby thing.

And what have I done with the money I received for the yarn I virtually garage sale-ed? I went to Cotton Clouds and bought more Softball Cotton. Blue for baby blankies. And blue-violet for a sweater for moi.

  1. Blue-violet is a lovely colour... and hard to come by.

  2. Stock party duds: velvet pencil skirt, or slacks, fancy glittery once a year top, usually red - black flats, some glittery geegaw in the hair and on the ears - done! Works every year :)

  3. Yeah, I think I might be able to scare that up in my closet, back in the corner somewhere, if I opt for the other two party invites - but the one on the 1st is a big downtown law firm shindig and I've heard "cocktail dress" is the code. I don't have one of those lurking in the back of the closet, dammit. I'll have to go shopping on the most brutal shopping weekend of the year.
