School Wears Him Out.

Dudley did very well at school today, but we learned the hard way that Bits of Hot Dog as Treats and Excited Dog creates a Fart Machine. If you think Bostons are cute, if Dudley has you thinking of one - be warned: These dogs are gassy. I mean, like you can't believe a 19 lb. dog can produce that much gas, hold your breath, you expect to see a visible green cloud, serious, at times audible, farts. Though today it was all Silent But Deadly. Girl and I were reduced to helpless giggling after a while, because he sat there all alert, his posture perfect, his attention complete, while his rearend leaked toxic gas for a solid hour. He learned to sit without wiggling at all, his Down has improved enormously, and we learned some solid tips to use on his other behaviors we'd like to change. Dudley is, as I've said before, Handsy. He uses his paws to get attention, to greet with joy, to express himself - but one of these days he's going to poke somebody in the eye, and that has to stop. So after today's "sit without wiggling" session, he was far more able to control his paws, and we can incorporate what we learned in the hold-still sit to other times when he comes at us with joyful, wild feet. He still hates riding in the car, though he was so tired on the return trip from school he was torn between cuddling with Mommy because he doesn't trust Grandma's driving, or stretching out on the big, comfy back seat. I think next week we'll buckle him into the backseat, he can learn to love it, and the gas will be back there. Posted by Picasa

  1. As a Boston mom too, I feel your pain. I have two Boston boys, so I get it in "stereo". Lovely isn't it? But I wouldn't be without my boys.

  2. I second that--Maggie's my third Boston, and they've all been gassy. Maggie likes to lay in bed with me, under the covers with her butt up by my head. If somehow the butt comes out from the covers in the night, I can get hit with a real surprise, let me tell you! And if you try to move her around, she doesn't like that at all.

  3. It's a tribute to their wonderful personalities that their owners treasure them despite their amazing gift for Powerfarts. Dudley is a joy, and normally, when he's not over-excited, his explosions are not that bad. But Saturday was truly an experience - if anyone had lit a match the building would have gone up.
