Once again, Kerstin and I hit the same story

Bush will `go on with life'

That's why he can't meet with Cindy Sheehan, ya see. Because he has to "go on with life." He can't spend 20 minutes with a grieving mother to give her a glass of iced tea, hear her pain, answer her questions, give her some reason/comfort/anything at all, because he has to go on with life.

Her son's life is over. Her life will never be the same, her family's life is irreparably damaged, the lives of everyone who lost a father/son/brother/mother/sister/daughter/cousin/best friend in the war are irreparably damaged, and the thousands and thousands of mostly very young soldiers who are maimed for life but alive sure as shit will never be the same, and they will never "go on with life" with the same carefree abandon as the guy who sent them to die or lose limbs or be burned or blinded or paralyzed.

But as long as he gets in a 2 hour bike ride and a Little League game and whatever in on this day of his month-long vacation (and isn't taking the entire month of August off very FRENCH? I'm just asking here...) all's Right with his world. I'm really starting to think Babs Bush raised herself a houseful of sociopaths that would make Ma Barker gag. Because anybody with a gnat's worth of sense or humanity or poltical savvy or plain old self-preserving brains would have figured out that inviting Cindy in for iced tea a week ago and letting her cry and verbally abuse him for a half hour and let her dump her pain over her son's death on him might have defused what may really become a full-blown antiwar campaign, and certainly would have derailed the construction of "Camp Casey" and the publicity it is getting.

And even a political reptile of a real man with a lick of sense would have seen this and would have sat down with her and listened to her and taken his lumps and found at least vague and adequate words to respond. But "real man" and "lick of sense" are definitely the operative words here. Our president ducks and hides and tries to pretend she isn't there. He's gonna go ride his bike! She's some icky grownup and he doesn't have to talk to her! I hope the sane Republicans and "Red Staters" are waking the hell up. This lamebrained selfish middle-aged child can't be what you voted for. He's not even a competent political reptile. It's just pathetic.

  1. Frightening stuff indeed!

What puzzles me is I hear so much discontent even from die hard Republicans about our Alfred E. Newman leader yet these are the self same people who put him there!!

I hope with you, that people are finally starting to see the level of ineptitude this reptile possesses!!

I keep asking the same damn thing: How in the hell could anyone vote for him?! I read a great post somewhere that described his behavior as of the "abused adolescent." All I can think is there must be a lot of people out there who identify with his psychopathology. They don't see anything wrong with the man because they, too, are ill.

  3. There is no reason this "man" should be president. Rove won the election for him, and our "liberal" media helped. I hope there will be a day when I'm no longer sick to my stomach over what our country is up to.

Bill Clinton would not only have stopped the car, he'd have gotten out, hugged her, and cried with her. Of course, he wouldn't have gotten her son (and so many others') killed in a war he doesn't know how to fight, either...

  5. I nearly threw up last week when I heard a sound bite from Bush (remember, I work in a radio station so I hear his shit twice an hour) saying "I understand her situation"

    Her "SITUATION"????????????

It's not a situation, it's her son. It's someone she raised, and nursed, and nurtured and loved. It's not a SITUATION.

  6. W is a frightening individual for sure.
While George the Elder was in office, I heard an interview w/Anne Lamott in which she spoke of being scared shitless by Babs Bush - how right she was & still is.
I saw on the 6 PM news today that demonstrators are now picketing in Philly to support this Mom & her cause - a damn good one it is too.
Thanks, Catherine, for your post about this.

Oh my - oh eloqently you have expressed what I feel about this sad, sad story. And today it was announced that Cindy S's husband is divorcing her. So the whole family has been truly destroyed by this "situation." What kind of creep can refuse a woman a half hour of ranting and venting her obvious grief? I don't get it, like you said, Catherine, it even goes against his own political self-interest which he is usually so interested in preserving. Uggh - Chelle
