HTML HELLLP!

I'm having an absolutely shitty day. I'm at home, waiting for a plumber - because this morning, while I was in the shower, I suddenly heard the toilet going "Glub, glub, blub...." The water from the shower was rising in the toilet bowl. This probably means that the main drain under the house is clogged. This is not a good thing. So I went into the office for a half day, called a plumber and someone is supposed to be here between now and 5. Kiss a few hundred bucks goodbye, I'm sure.

While I'm here waiting I'm wrestling with this new blog template. I hope there is some gracious HTML genius out there who can tell me what I'm doing wrong here. When I attempt to add a "links" section to the sidebar and preview it, the entire contents of the sidebar drops below the main section in viewing - doesn't move directly below it, but doesn't show until you scroll all the way through the main section, and whoops, there it is, hanging at the bottom. I have looked at the template carefully and I think I'm putting the section in the right place. I have copied the font size the size of the existing sections. I think I have the code right - but when I preview the blog, not only are the sections screwed up but the font is larger all over the blog. What am I doing wrong?

Amy of Knitty fame posted a comment about my making the Laptop Sweater - I hope she realizes that my reference to a "toilet paper cover" was a swipe at Certain Knitters Who Mock anything "fun" as Not Real Knitting. Not that I think anyone who thinks that way would waste two minutes on my blog. Anyway, the pattern is cute as hell and it's also a good idea. I hope my full-figured Dell can squeeze into it, I was a bit concerned looking at the top flap (which is all I have done so far) but looking at the buttoned picture on p. 57, I think it'll work fine. Here's a picture of the flap, with the chosen (unless I change my mind) buttons sitting on it:

Yes, it does look brown, it's really a deep rich purple, and the buttons are shades of purple too. Whoops, the plumber just called, he's on his way!
