Talking to my neighbor tonight, and after the by now ritual greeting, "We were so lucky!" and discussion of friends and family without power (Boy is still without, and yes, these people are welcome to come eat, shower and soak up a/c at the houses of the electrified) we discussed how we're losing the light earlier and fall is not far behind. Fall is our worst storm season, and also when we get the most dramatic changes in temperatures. I had an urge to make fingerless gloves. My hands and feet are always cold, even in extreme air conditioning, my office is freaking torture and I have threatened to wear my felted clogs at work. I'm thinking Koigu fingerless gloves must be the next thing cast on. I have the Koigu. I have a bit of everything (except something lovely for a poncho) in the stash. Ann Budd's Book of Knitting Patterns, figure out the gauge, and gloves happen. Stop the fingers short and fingerless gloves happen. Duh. Perhaps this is the thing to think of, after finishing the Shrek Bag (or should I call this bag Charley?) and the apricot crocheted shawl, which should also be the Charley Shawl. I worked on them furiously, trying to calm my nerves as the wind and rain slammed the house, they deserve the honor.

Things are still really bad here, I'm embarrassed to be so well off, with electricity, cable and clean water, when so many within a five mile radius are not yet. But the really bad hit is Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte. We had a legal proceeding on the calendar for next week in Punta Gorda, we had a call that it won't be happening, because the courthouse is basically, uh, gone. If you feel inclined to send prayers or cash to the hurricane victims fund, trust me, it is really needed. Just not by me, because I was freaking lucky. And I know it.
