And another weekend is over. This week should fly by, Tuesday I have to go to the Mothership, which will make for a looong day, but I do get overtime so I'm not complaining. Friday may be the Miami trip that fell apart, but I'm betting probably not. Plenty of other stuff to do in between.

I brought home a sample cabinet door and countertop sample for my new kitchen, and I'm so glad I did - the countertop is just "eh." It's not awful, if the house had it already I could live with it, but it's nothing special. Boy dropped by and said the same thing - we're now thinking a darker or lighter countertop would be better, but Sandstone Corian is too bleh. Back to the Depot it goes, and the search for the right countertop continues.

My wrist feels much better - we'll see what creating a Powerpoint presentation tomorrow does to it. I'm able to knit without a twinge again, and I'm 2/3 through the second Critter Knitters blankie - this one in purple Homespun, the color is called "Gothic" and it's so pretty, shades of purple and very bumpy and cushy. I had to go up a needle size on this one. Normally I'm a loose woman, gauge-wise, so I routinely start with a smaller needle and see where my gauge lands. Of course, on these blankies gauge isn't crucial, but cushiness is. The purple Homespun needed a larger needle to let its many bumps spring free. I have a skein of green left for a small cat-sized blankie and more of the Mission color (maybe discontinued, deep reds, blues and greens, very pretty) for a larger red and blue dog-sized blankie. I'm enjoying making them - yesterday Animal Planet ran an "animal cops" marathon, and I took housework breaks to knit and watch. I felt good thinking that my blankies would go comfort animals like the ones rescued on the show. (My three cats are rescues, but two of the three lived like Paris Hilton, with an insanely indulgent foster mother, and all three were fostered in comfy loving homes. No shivering in cages for them, they arrived pre-spoiled.)

I know some of the Cool Knitters say nasty things about Lion Brand Homespun and I'm risking not getting into the Cool Knitter Clique by using it, but I'll take the risk. I'm pretty sure my outspoken fondness for garter stitch has put me on the Cool Knitters Shit List, and I'm quite comfortable there. Homespun really has its virtues. I don't like it for a garment like a pullover sweater - it doesn't breathe and it doesn't stretch - but comes in a huge assortment of nice colors and can take a beating (and I've given my Homespun afghans a beating). I'd use it anytime for a throw, afghan, or lap robe or shawl for a nursing home patient (no worries about someone accidentally washing the 100% wool treasure), nursing shawl (a little baby barf won't hurt it) etc. I'd even make a dog-walking coat/robe out of it for the late night winter strolls - as long as it's loose-fitting the lack of stretch wouldn't be an issue. So that's my rant as a Defender of Homespun. It doesn't suck as much as some people say, and it can look quite nice in the right applications.
