Quasi-bad night's sleep last night and it was beyond my control. I went to bed early and fell asleep quickly, but Higgins started bitching in the middle of the night, I know not why, and woke me at 3 a.m. I tried for almost an hour to fall asleep and then gave up and got up. My new attitude toward my chronic middle-of-the-night insomnia - instead of tossing and turning and getting more and more irritated, give up and use the time for something pleasant. So I knitted. The ripped and re-started back of the Lo-Tech Sweat is a great 3 a.m. project at this stage - I don't have to count a damn thing, just turn off the brain and knit stockinette. I do love this green, it's so soft and summery, I will have to find fun buttons that carry on the summery theme.

After drinking way less coffee than usual, (could it be that I really am starting to prefer exercise to worshipping Juan Valdez?) I did the Denise Austin "Mind, Body, Soul," DVD all the way through. Not gracefully, not easily, but all the way through. I'll take getting through it at this point. It's a step toward gracefully and easily. Denise definitely is growing on me - yes, I know, she's annoying, she never shuts up yet she doesn't always explain enough, but the workouts are effective and fun and if you can watch what she's doing and try to follow it and sort of tune out/accept the rest, it's great stuff. I would say you need a modest knowledge of Pilates for this one, because she assumes you have that already and doesn't explain much about form, other than "zip up your abs" (mine still sullenly resist zipping, but did at least pretend today), but if you watch her and try to follow the form demonstrated rather than relying on her "zippy" advice, it's fine.

Almost all of my clothes look like hell on me, but I'm still pounds and inches from wanting to drop hundreds of bucks on new things that fit, because they may only fit for a while and I have no idea what shape I'll be in when I'm two months further into this, and yet I have to somehow get through a work week looking presentable. It's actually becoming an issue, I spend a lot of time pulling things out of my closet, trying them on, and declaring them Shit. Goodwill should just send a damn truck in a month.
