"Take Back the Life!" Exactly, Bess. Girlchild has had a terrible semester and it's time to regroup. Sometimes you just know when it's time to get out of a job, and this is definitely one of them.

A lot of people (okay, my parents) were concerned (okay, appalled) that I bailed out of my "very good job" this fall, but I have no regrets at all. It was a good job on paper, but staying there would have been slow career suicide, and I'm really glad I made the leap of faith - especially now that a mere two months later, my old office is a war zone. Girlchild's career goals do not include waiting tables (a source of some resentment among the managers of the restaurant, I suspect) and she needs to be able to concentrate on her grades and her real future. If this means beans and rice for dinner more often that's fine, I really like beans and rice.

It's really cold and windy this morning - the temp is 45 but the wind is really icy. My left ear is crackling and twinging suspiciously - I need to make myself a hat. The Bossy One is wearing his old Homespun sweater - and what a ratty sweater it is now. I went into the stash and found some Bartlett Yarns wool in a nice deep teal-ish blue, and cast on a new sweater for Murphy. It's fun to knit for a Yorkie, it goes so quickly. It's like making a sweater for a teddy bear or a newborn. Yorkies do need sweaters in cold weather, their long coats have no undercoat, it's like human hair, and he has very little body fat to insulate him. He loves his ratty old sweater, all I have to do is mention it and he dances around until I put it on him. He's still wearing it, napping in his little bed. But now that I know he loves to wear sweaters, he deserves nicer ones for days like this.

And the Kureyon 102 Booga Bag in progress:

I lost both my Ebay bids to get more of this - I want to make a matching hat to go with Girlchild's long scarf, so I need to score a couple more skeins. I think I found some (but I'm keeping it a secret, because this stuff is way too popular!)
