I must report a felting failure. The dresser tray is a misshapen hairy mess. I had a bad feeling about it when I added the I-cord trim and saw the way the "tray" started to cup even before hitting the water. After felting it's not a tray as much as a deformed and hairy square bowl. I'm glad I only bought two skeins of Carodan Farm's wool for my felting experiment (and it was cheap), it took a long time to felt and then felted coarse and hairy, sheds like crazy, and is floppy and not firm at all. Ick. I cannot imagine felting anything with this again. I'll share a picture after the worthless blob dries a bit and before I throw it in the trash.
However, all is not lost, while I was working on this disaster I developed my own idea of how to make a tray, and I'm going to try a small experiment using Cascade 220. I really like the concept of a soft tray to hold jewelry, glasses, etc. and I'm determined to make it work, but this pattern just didn't do it. Felting is such a gamble - you win some, you lose some.
