
It's ugly, it's hairy, and it's definitely not a tray.
That's the Carodan Farm wool felted "tray" from the pattern in Felted Knits. It's a great illustration of how different yarns can completely change a project. That's about all it's good for. Into the trash it goes.

My own attempt - made a garter rectangle from Cascade 220, picked up stitches all the way around, and did a 4-stitch I-cord around it. To give a little more shape at the corners, I knitted one extra row just on the 4 I cord stitches, without binding off a stitch, on each side of the corner "point." It's almost what I envisioned. I think on the next one I'll pick up the stitches and knit maybe three rounds before starting the I-cord bind-off. That may make the edge stand up and look more tray-like. I don't have much of this pretty purple Cascade, I need to use some of it to make little felted sachets for the dried lavender I bought the other day. I think the Threadbear boys will be hearing from me soon.
