I picked up the fall issue of Ultimate Knitting yesterday, mostly for the Nicky Epstein cover sweater, an Edwardian-ish jacket with a floral collar done in duplicate stitch. I don't know if I'll ever be ambitious enough to take on that much duplicate stitch in such an elaborate design, but the overall shape of the sweater is nice, I think it would be very flattering.

Yesterday was a granny square day - I've been trying to decide whether to continue making the granny square cotton afghan for myself, or make it smaller and give it to a small female person I know. Once I got started making squares, I found myself back in the Granny Trance - cranking out granny squares is less boring than acres of stockinette, but similarly effortless and soothing. I think today will be another Granny Day, and this will probably be the take-along project when I go to Girl's later this week.


In the meantime, I hope everybody gets to spend the holiday like Murphy:
